Valentines Day 2014

Valentines day 2014

The day started with K waking up and receiving his valentines day gift from mom and dad in his chair backer.  the backer is from Pottery barn kids if your wondering.
Once K was ready to eat we made heart shape pancakes and eggs and strawberry milk.  K said it was the best breakfast ever.  Ha he says that to any meal that is made for him.  Just love his kind heart.
Once we got some school work done K and I baked some cupcakes to decorate.  Red velvet with cream cheese frosting.  Than we went onto some art where K was learning how to make a heart stencil and how you would paint with a stencil.

K said his favorite thing of the day was EVERYTHING!  He enjoyed the non-stop fun through out the day weaved within his normal school day.

FT: Marineland 3/7/14

Marine Land
Palm Coast FL

This trip was AWESOME! other than the 48 degree weather

The trip started out with learning about Bottle nose dolphins in the classroom.  We learned about the parts of dolphins and what they eat to the noises they make.  The classroom learning was about 20 Min's.  Once we finished the class we got to spend sometime just watching the dolphins play with each other and the kids at the windows.

Nellie was happy to see us.  She is 60 yrs old and doing awesome.   Did you know that dolphins shed their outer skin every 2 hours?  That's why dolphins feel the way they do.

Its our time with some one on one time with the dolphins.  Our group spent time with Shocka and Hemingway.  Hemingway is 20 yrs old and Shocka was 2 yrs old.  We learned a couple of commands to do with the dolphins. We got to feed, dance and get up close with the dolphins.  Loved the hands on part as now we got to see things that we learned in the classroom up close.

Part of our group added the behind the seas tour and that was where we all learned about the other sea life that marine land was working with.  We also got to learn the history of marine land which started off with a dolphin named FLIPPY!  Yes, that sounds sort of like a famous dolphins name.  Yup the writer got the idea from Flippy!

This field trip is by far our favorite field we've taken and we've been on some awesome trips.

We've learned so much about Dolphins in general and dolphins right here in our own back yard.  Teaching us how things like run off from our yards can damage our eco system.  Dolphins in the Indian lagoon are only averaging a life span of 7 yrs when a wild dolphin not in the lagoon are averaging 30 yrs.

Adding to our school library

Another great trip to the Goodwill resulted in $10 of gentle used books.

We already had Charlotte's web but for that price it would be a great book for paired reading.

1st day of Science class

I have enrolled K into a science class with other homeschoolers at a local private school.  Every other week he gets to go and join in a class that's learning about the human body.
Before he started school he needed a backpack.  We went out and he picked out his backpack; he was so proud to have his own backpack.  The day he got it he showed it everyone and had to wear everywhere.  Here he is in his beloved backpack getting ready to head out for his 1st day of class.

His 1st day they got an overview of the human body.  the class is full and lots of fun.  We are a few weeks into class now and they have learned about cells, bones, muscles and the cardiovascular system.  Since his class is only every other week we are also studying the human body at home.  We are working on a lap book to go along with our studies.  Which I hope will help K to hold onto the info that he learns this year.

Have a wonderful day

Legoland field trip 2012

We had a field trip to Lego land Florida with our homeschool group.  There we're over 300 of us all from Brevard.

We got up before the sun to arrive at Lego land with the sun rise.  Our family was the first to arrive but the line of cars started showing up less than a minute later.

This is our group for the get moving class.  The kiddos in this group we're all in K-3rd grade.  They had a nice little class time learning about movement.  Than it was time to make groups of two and build a car to race.  K and his partner kept changing up their car until it was time to race.  Great teammates

once class was over we got to explore the rest of the park for the day.  Great park.  They really get the kids moving and thinking.  K loved the driving mini cars on a mini roadway.  They we're basically teaching the Little's how to drive and follow the rules of the road in a controlled and fun matter.  Most kid's didn't take it serious but K on the other hand was really practicing.  Looking behind him like daddy does and driving with one hand like mama.  What they pick up on when they are in the car with us.

They had some small roller coaster but for the most part they we're rides that you had to us your body to get the rides full effect.  a pedal ride that if you wanted to go up you better pedal.  a boat that you had to drive around a course (not on a track).  putting out a fire, they had to get their fire truck to the fire and put out the fire and than get back.  Lots of huge playgrounds for the kiddos to run and play.

We had a great day from opening until 3 when we finally started to feel our 4AM wake up call

Schooling in the simplest form

We made peanut butter cookies and K learned how to follow direction from the back of a bag (Yes we used a Betty Crocker pouch) and the kitchen aid.

Here he's learning the criss cross on top.

We finished and sprinkled them with sugar and baked them

Pure JOY on his face

Learning about clouds and America

Our week of December 5th-8th

We started our study on clouds this week.  Learning the main types of clouds and their scientific names.

Here K is painting clouds..as you can see he added some rain to a few of his clouds.  This project was needed for his writing paper the following day.

Writing about the type of cloud that he painted a picture of

This is our cloud chart where we wrote some features of clouds that K knew before we started our study of clouds.

We are also learning about our country.  This is a short series as we are just doing short series this school year and next school year we are planning on covering the USA in depth state by state.
This week we are learning about the flag, our freedoms, the symbols of our country.

This next week we are working on finishing up our reading and phonics books and getting ready to start the next set of books after Christmas.
We are doing a fire theme this week for community helpers that we started last week but this week is hands on.  Look fwd to the pictures at the end of the week.

Have a joyous week

The Winter is behind us now

The winter is behind us now and things are starting to get into full time swing now. When it's cold we kind of hibernate like bears. Living in Florida the houses mainly the older houses aren't built with a heating until with our A/C units. So long story we bundle up stay inside and watch lots of movies snuggling on the sofa staying warm.

With that said we have had a wonderful month of above 70 degree weather. We've been out in the yard exploring; watching the birds build nest, honey bees gathering nectar and the list goes on.

The Field trips are being planned and we are heading out to explore what the wonderful state of Florida has for us.

I have started the ordering of new school books for grade change coming up in a few months. K is getting excited each time a new set of books arrive. EBay is a great source for used curriculum for less then half the price new.

Got caught by the student getting things ready for school

I was caught finishing up some new felt letters for the felt board. I think the SHOCK was that K never sees me getting ready for school. I have a rule to do this once K is in bed. Some times you just have to break the rules.

Week 01/25 -01/28 2011

This week is a busy week. We start a new song in Music this Wednesday have a few art projects to finish up and all our book work and start the homework routine. Yes even homeschoolers have homework. I love this idea because it teaches student that they are responsible to get things done without it being placed right in front of student. It also allows the other parent (dad) to have a hand in his school work and also see what they are working on learning.

Have a couple of test this week..Math and Phonics test :o)

Have a blessed week

The night before the 1st day back from Christmas Vacation

I spent my weekend working on getting ready for the month of school. Yes I pull the worksheets and make all my copies that I need the weekend before a new month. Keeps my free time at the end of the night once my student is in bed for me to sit down and relax.

I also have another binder now for Teacher stuff. I am a binder freak for my organizational OCD:o)

Have a wonderful week back to school
