Our morning area.  This is where we do a few minutes of reviewing things and also where I do story  time.
Every morning we go over the date by writing it out.  I also will write a couple short sentences that son has to read and figure out.  Its normally a follow directions picture that he will do in his morning journal.  The Sentences are something that I have him do on his own.  Than have him show me what he got at the end.  Takes 10-15 min's for him to complete.
Clip board is on the floor but that will be hanging on the wall soon.  I use clipboards when son is in this area away from his desk.

Our bulletin board is just FUN!  For the spring I had son make the whole thing without knowing.  Just short lessons every day to the grand finale of the bulletin board.  He was super excited to see how I used his art work.  The Face was another lesson not part of building the bulletin board

Play table is just that a play table ;o)  There is another drawer but it's still in the garage

                                                          Our Library area.
Had lots of books until I put them on the shelf and realized I didn't have as many as I thought.

FT- Old Florida Museum

St. Augustine Florida
4/29/13

Spanish Colonial time period
Fort Mose 1565-1763

Ponce De Leon came to proclaim the land.   Guardsmen (K had this role, he took it serious) were on duty all the time to protect the colony. Chores such as emptying the potty also belonged to the youngest of the children every.  They had to empty it every morning.

Moving out of the house to learn about chores and games of the Spanish children
There was shells to crush, fences to be built, blankets to be weaved, holes to be made in wood, candles for light.  Don't forget they also needed to grind their own corn flour. Round and round don't pond; was the chant all the kids learned for making flour.

After the chores were done they had free time for a little fun of games.  K loved the game like checkers but you never remove the pieces.

Cant wait to go back there to explore some more

Water Play with our homeschool friends

Recess water play day!
4/17/13

I forgot my camera so these photo's are from my phone

Kayden had a blast playing with the shaving cream!  Just an FYI though shaving cream & bright colors don't match, faded his shorts in spots.
Slip and slide was Fun!
Water balloon fight was a riot.  the kids had so much fun getting the moms and dads that were playing.  I wish I would of brought a change of clothes so I could of played.  Next time Kristi add me to the list of moms to tag with water and shaving cream ;O)

K had so much fun he ended up napping on the way home from this.  Wish we did things like this a little more often than once a year.

FT- WonderWorks

Wonderworks Orlando
4/26/13

K was scared to go inside as he was for sure everything inside was destroyed as the building is upside down.  Once we went in he was fine until the DARK spinning tube you walk through.  He ran back to the end.  I ended up having to have him close his eyes and push him through that.  Other than those 2 things he had a blast once he was past all of that.

He even tried the ropes which is about 12 feet above the ground.  He had the sweetest assistant who worked with him so that he could try it out.  This was my proudest moment seeing him overcome something he was nervous about.  Esp, when I saw older kids turn around without even trying.  So proud he didn't let his fear take a hold of him.

The light board was really neat!  My  little ham held his breath while posing in the space suit ;o) he's a funny guy.  Both mama and son had a blast on the large piano.  Bubbles where fun but we only got our heads in a bubble before the bubble would pop.

Both K and I learned a little bit about the icy waters from the titanic crash site.  K left his hand in for 36 sec's and than he was off to the next station.  I on the other hand was still going after 5 min's but had to move on with K.  LOL!  It was cold but I didn't think about it being cold which helped.  We hit the water flowing up, still and down, earthquake station, hurricane force wind (K didn't).  We had a blast at Wonderworks

We spent 4 hours there before heading out for lunch and some shopping in Orlando.  We had a great time but next time I am asking if we can go in another way, that spinning tube was a little much for my guy.  With the fear of the unknown this isn't a good start to the wonderful adventure Wonderworks brings.

Our new school room in the making

Welcome to a peek of our new school room.

Soft preview of our classroom ;O)

Teacher area.  Love this desk!  Went shopping for dry earse boards and came home with this desk.  As you can see desk is open all the way around.  This way I can call student (right now I have 1 but we are starting the process of adopting) over for paired reading or testing right at my desk.  Stayed tunes for another post just about the teachers desk.

here is our morning area!  Again another blog about this area once the area is completed

Our library went up today.  I swore I had more books until I put them on the shelf.  We have plenty of room to grow.  Laminator is in the pillow case to stay dust free (moved from a house that was insanly dusty) My plan is for it to be placed on top of this shelf.  Yes, for now the shelf is over lapping the door a little but that will be changing.  Stay tuned.

Kaydens Desk area!  We will be ordering a new chair to match come the fall when PBK runs deals on desk and desk chairs. I'm way too cheap to pay full price when he has a perfectly good chair.  But, at the same time I have to have it matching or it will bother me.  (LOL!  Yes, this mama teacher needs things to go together).  Another post will be up soon on what the student desk entails.

The best storage unit ever.

Stayed tuned for details of each of the areas and others as our school room takes form.

Have a wonderful week

Water colors and masking tape

Normally we would of done a ton of projects for Easter but we moved.  With Moving everything has been in boxes.  Yesterday I had things in working in order so we got our art on. K was excited to have a little bit of school to do.

I gave K masking tape and water colors and let him decorate his paper egg.  He made a cross on his egg; when I asked him why he said it reminds him of Jesus Christ.  Sure put a tear in this moms eyes.  Even though we decorate with bunnies and eggs he's starting to understand it's about Jesus and what he did for us.

Have a great Holiday weekend

It's a WINDY day

As part of our weather Unit K made a windsock

He drew his family to decorate his socket and added streamers to the end to fly in the wind

Here he is flying the kite he made in his homeschool art class.  He was so excited about this kite esp. since he made it ALL BY HIM SELF
Here's his windsock blowing in the wind.  Since it's made with paper we have it hanging in the house for all of the family to enjoy.

Such a Great Spring day in Florida.

4 Caterpillars = 4 Butterflies

This week we did a unit on Butterflies and moths
and the best part of this unit was watching the whole metamorphis happening right in front of our eyes.  The caterpillars that we got were about ready when we got them so didn't have to wait for long for the change to start.

Here you can see the last two caterpillars finding their hanging spot

Once the butterflies came out from the pupa their bodies were all plump and when they were done they pushed out this red stuff that wasn't need for their wings.

here is one of our painted lady butterflies.  The inside wings are bright and colorful.

A great week of study and we learned a lot about butterflies and moths

Weather Unit

This week we studied about the weather and the effects the weather has on the earth.
We learned about the water cycle, tornado's/hurricanes, clouds, rain, the sun.

Here is a few of the crafts that we did through out the week

Look at these Cupcake earths we made for this week.  We had fun making them and of course eating them :o)

My son who normally HATES to color took his time and colored the whole picture.  He was so proud of his work and so was his mama
We got to go over the names of the clouds this week so of course I had to put up the charts from earlier in the year.

Books we used:
Lightning it's electrifying By All Aboard science readers
Wonderful Weather ( we did a handful of the Experiments lots of FUN)
Weather  By Smithsonian
The cloud book By Tomie de Paola
Flash Crash Rumble and Roll By Lets read and find out science series
Weather (great everything book) By Caroline Harris

Geography Week 1 and 2

MEXICO

June 8th - 17th

(Wed&Thur ONLY)

Our passports are made and we are traveling around the world this summer. For two weeks we will be in Mexico studying. We are not really traveling there just learning about Mexico from our living room. Stay tuned I will be posting weekly on our travels.

Day 1 we start with going through customs and getting our passports stamped and stopping in for some lunch before heading to the classroom for Leaning a Music, Spanish speaking lesson, animals of Mexico and some good ol'coloring.

Day 2 Music, Spanish speaking lesson, animals of Mexico, Mexico info, Craft time

Day 3 Music, Spanish speaking lesson, animals of Mexico, Mexico info lesson, Lunch time

Day 4 Music, Spanish speaking, animals of Mexico, Mexico info lesson, videoing and party

Off to the airport to depart for our next country...... Where do you think we're going?

The Pyramid or the plate?

Which one do you like better? Which one to teach with?

Well both of course. Since we already stated learning about the food pyramid we're going to stick with it and bring in the plate method as well. After looking at the NEW plate chart I am liking the plate chart. For the most part this is how I am going to teach K about the different portions and how they should look on your plate and the pyramid will be used to show energy levels. What I mean by showing energy sort of like a battery charging. As you eat the different food groups your battery charges and when you exercise energy goes out. Each portion has it's own graph to show energy in. Now what do you think about the new charts??

Police hall of fame field trip

This past Wednesday (4/06/11) we got together with a group of homeschoolers at the Police hall of fame in Titusville, FL. Great trip if you ask us. 57 police officers have been killed in the line of duty since the start of the year. Let's all THANK our officers who risk their life every day to protect us.

This car was the cruiser of a police officer who was killed just 3 weeks after coming to Florida to pay respect for another officer who was killed in the line of duty. The car was donated when his wife came to pay her respect to her husband when his name was added to the wall. She went home to have the car donated to the police hall of fame. The neat thing about the car is that at the officers memorial everyone who knew him wrote messages to him and then the car was clear coated to protect all the messages. My heart just hurt at this station. 9/11. These are parts of the World Trade Center. All the adults in the group had to touch these and NO ONE spoke.

Waiting in line to get in the police cruiser. K was really excited to sit in a police car.
